Our two boys go to the primary school in San Miguel de Salinas and they are off on Friday 12th and Monday 15th February - they have a carnaval celebration at school on Thursday 11th February then a long weekend. Not sure if its the same elsewhere.

Depending where the school is the next days off for what they call Semana Blanca (just before lent, Carnival time) in Torrevieja is Monday and Tuesday 15 and 16th Feb, however I know in San Miguel they are off on Friday 12th and Monday 15th so depends on the area. The next day after that is San Jose (Fathers day) Friday 19th March.

There was a link to the general school calendar for Comunidad Valenciana on a previous subject called "school calendar", that was the oficial one and then every TownHall is allowed to add another three red days...a bit confusing, if you ask someone attending orihuela schools, their kids start eastern hollidays 27th march, cause their Town Hall add its 3days on 29, 30 and 31 march...but torrevieja used their 3 red days for schools in diferent dates, so kids in Torrevieja had days off in carnival but they will be in school 29,30, 31 march... In other words, when readin an answer you have to make sure the one who answers has his/her kids in a school the same area than yours...(same townhall).. Mad...Spain used to be a country, now its 17 with 17 diferent school calendars and thats not the end, every TownHall is allowed to alter it by adding three red days... I think I will make a poll in my kitchen and ask all the people down in its own "padron" to claim for independence from the rest of the house...

Most British parents let their children have days off whenever it suits them.Don't you! It's part of the beauty of living in Spain.
